Industrial Absorbents and OKO-PUR
Accidental spills of oils, hydrocarbons, chemicals and other industrial liquids are a workplace-safety and environmental concern. Industrial absorbents help contain spills, limit damage and restore safe conditions. FAIT offers several solutions, including OKO-PUR, a universal polyurethane absorbent.

Industrial absorbents: safety and environmental protection
Industrial absorbents are materials designed to absorb and retain hazardous or polluting liquids. They help prevent contamination of soil, groundwater and bodies of water; reduce the risk of slips, fires and exposure to harmful substances; support compliance with environmental and safety rules, such as Legislative Decree 152/06 (the “Consolidated Environmental Act”); and enable a rapid response to limit the spread of spills. They come as granules, powders, pads, socks and pillows and are made from mineral, plant-based or synthetic materials.
OKO-PUR for oil and hydrocarbon spills
OKO-PUR is a lightweight, granular industrial absorbent made from expanded polyurethane (PUR), formulated to absorb oils, hydrocarbons, fuels and many chemicals. It is oleophilic, meaning it attracts and binds oils, and hydrophobic, meaning it repels water. It floats and selectively absorbs oily pollutants on water surfaces, and can also be used on floors and land.
Key benefits of OKO-PUR
• Absorption capacity: a 6.5 kg bag (about 32.5 litres in volume) can absorb approximately 20–65 litres of liquid, depending on viscosity. • Fast action: it encapsulates the pollutant and reduces volatility and hazard. • Easy to use: it is simple to transport, spread over the affected area and collect once saturated. • Versatility: suitable for industrial floors, roads, land, collection basins, rivers, lakes and ports. • Environmental safety: the product is non-toxic; after use it can be disposed of under special-waste rules and recovered for energy at authorised plants because of its high calorific value. • Certifications: OKO-PUR is tested and certified, for example by DEKRA, and approved by the Italian Ministry of the Interior for road use (Type I, II, III R SF).
How to use OKO-PUR
1. Containment, if necessary: cordon off the spill area to prevent it spreading. 2. Application: distribute the product evenly until the spill is covered; on water, spread it over the oil slick. 3. Absorption: leave it in place until the liquid has been fully absorbed. 4. Collection and disposal: collect the saturated product with brooms, shovels or vacuums and dispose of it as special waste in accordance with local rules and the substance absorbed.
Who industrial absorbents and OKO-PUR are for
Industrial absorbents and OKO-PUR are used in manufacturing and mechanical industries for spills from machinery and hydraulic systems; in workshops and body shops for used oils, fuels and solvents; at service stations and fuel depots; by transport and logistics companies, especially those handling ADR dangerous goods; in ports, marinas and shipyards; by environmental remediation and ecological emergency-response companies; and by Fire Brigades and Civil Protection.
